Responsibilities of the Assistant Director

The responsibilities of the Assistant Director will generally include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist the Director to help manage and provide oversight for the after school program which operates from 2:30-5:30 each Monday-Friday From late September-December and then January - May. The center closes for student breaks and holidays. Also some Wednesday evenings 6-7:30 for Teen nights.

  • Direct and supervise Bentley University student leaders in running effective educational, social, and recreational programs.

  • Work directly with children ages K-grade 10 with academic work, crafts, outdoor play.

  • Represent the Learning Center positively in all communications and interactions.

  • Occasionally, engage parents/guardians of the children who attend the center as part of student’s social or academic success.

  • Help to keep the center clean and organized and well-run by organizing donations/ supplies and purchasing items needed for activities at the center.

Qualified Candidate

  • Bachelors degree (Masters or equivalent preferred) in social sciences, education, social work, community development or related fields.

  • 2+ years of experience working with school-aged youth, college students, and diverse communities

  • Flexibility, willing to work both inside and outside with children.

  • Ability to supervise and mentor college students.

  • Ability to independently problem solve and implement solutions

  • Ability to create and execute educational programming for 35-40 students Experience with youth education and curriculum development

  • Strong writing and verbal skills

  • Availability from 2:00-5:30 on Monday to Friday

  • Also available 6 -7:30 on some Wednesdays for Teen Night.

  • Must be a self-starter, reliable, results oriented, and possess excellent management and supervisory skills.

  • Driver’s license and access to an automobile

  • Fluency in Spanish, Arabic and/or Haitian Creole (reading and writing) a plus

Salary: $35.00 /hour

Eligible for $2,500 retention bonus for 1 year of service.
